TEANECK, NJ—New Jersey's black bear infestation took a surprising turn this week when the town council approved measures to allow specially trained members of the bear population to serve as bicycle policemen, drive city buses, and serve on the zoning board.

saturday night seth, monique, emily and i watched the oilers kick ass in game six.

at this point, we decided we had to get to edmonton. for monday night.

sunday morning, after my sis and i took my dad flying for fathers' day, seth, monique and i set out for vancouver.

sunday afternoon, we switched seth's subaru justy for monique's week-old honda civic.

sunday evening, we hit the long road.

when you have an adrenaline-seeking fearless professional stuntwoman driving - aka monique-, you go fast.

monday morning we arrived.

What can I say?

Let's see...

I finally got off my ass and got a job. It's basically everything I wanted in a summer job, so I'm thrilled. Good money, easy work, no real commitments, lots of perks. Fuck yeah. I'm working part-time for Truffles Catering basically whenever I accept shifts. Tomorrow is my first shift, working the 1100 guest opening of the new Westin Bear Mountain Resort. I think I'm clearing dishes for 6 hours, which can't be too hard. 54-40 is playing and I get pizza. Go Truffles.

No complaints there.

What else?

I saw Pilate last night, with People in Planes and some other band. Great Show. Ran into too many people, but in a good way. Saw JP and Simon yet again. I think we're secretly stalking each other. I mention them in particular because JP and I were best friends back in the day and he always dreamed of being in a band. Now he's the frontman for Maurice (which Simon is in too), and apparently it's just a dream come true. Talented guy - I'm glad to see it all working out for him. Go JP.

Other things...

Oh YES. Sean is amazing and my hero for finding us a place to live in the fall! Clearly this is very important. Our place (in the process of being confirmed) is a second floor 2bdrm and den apartment on a 2 floor character house at Charles and Church. Right downtown (for those who don't know Toronto), two blocks from campus, etc. Big bay windows, balcony, washer/dryer, etc. The rent isn't cheap, but the place is so so so awesome. And I am so so so excited. SOSO. Go Sean!

And finally...

Tonight, after watching part of the not-to-be-talked-about Oilers game, Leandra I went to the Evening of Dance at Oak Bay - my old high school. The show was actually quite good (in past years it's been a lot of the same and not that great in my opinion) and fun times were had by all. My friend Emily was in an alumni piece with some other people I used to know and we also got to see Michael [info]insides_arepink in more or less every number.  We only saw our old obsession Alex Frankson (long story) in one number sadly, but there was plenty of other hot boy material to be had. It was much discussed. In fact, we even agreed on the hottest boy. But anyway, yes. Enjoyable. Afterwards, we went out with Emily and Sky for drinks and dessert and were joined by my everlasting workout and life partner Seth [info]sethypoo, Travis and... some girl. Sky and I then chatted for long periods of time while walking in circles in Carnarvon Park. Go circles.

In conclusion... yeah yeah, god is good. And here's a picture from last year of Sky and Emily in my hallway.

Change in plan. Life plan, that is.

I don't know the extent of the details yet, but there are potentially very different things brewing.

I promise to update as necessary.

In the mean time, I have news and two questions.

News first.

I broke my hand and misaligned my spine in a painful skiing accident in the Alps. It's amazing how little we value an opposable thumb until its stuck in a cast. I'm fine though. Worse things have happened to better people.

I have no boyfriend to speak of, though I do have a girlfriend of sorts. Her name is Amy Winter and we're going to Morocco together next week. She is excellent and wonderful. She and Cathy, her girlfriend back in Georgia, have been together two years.

My cheese is soft and delicious. My wine is fine and cheaper than water. My toilet paper is light purple and lilac scented. My French is improving slowly.

And now the questions. Rhetorical for the mean time.

In this grey-shaded world, some important things remain black and white. What are yours?

I may have an idea. I can't promise anything except to do my best. Are you with me?

Well here we are finally, just you and I.

Seems like forever since we've had alone time like this. No power struggles. Nobody has to rush off. It's so peaceful.

If only you weren't so disconnected from the world. But I suppose its not your fault – you can't help it. Many times I've seen you making an effort, trying to connect in so many different ways. But it's hard in this strange new land, I know. Don't worry, I won't hold it against you. But you must understand that it will mean we have less time together.

I think that's a good thing though. Last semester we had lots of time – too much time. It seemed like my only life was lived through you; there just wasn't much else around. But now we've made this move and everything has changed. Changed for the best too, even though I know it means we don't get to see each other as much. But you'd be proud of what I've been doing and the progress I've been making.

Update from France

As written yesterday night...

Well, I'm proud to report that I have spent the better part of a week resembling a paralyzed deer caught in the piercing headlights of an oncoming semi-truck.

The remainder of the week I have either been nodding enthusiastically and repeating “d'accord” because I understood a phrase or imitating a rocking chair while in the fetal position.

Out of everything that was given to me over the holidays, there is one gift that sticks in my mind. In the days before Christmas, I got an envelope in the mail from my friends Niki and Rae in Victoria. Inside it was a beautiful card and some pictures.

The card was a Soft Edges piece – Niki and Rae's fund raising initiative for their upcoming project in Africa. Basically, they're utilizing their photographic gifts by making cards out of their photos and selling them at craft fairs. The money then goes towards financing both their volunteer trip to Africa and obtaining new and used cameras. The cameras in turn will be given by them to school children in Zanzibar, along with lessons on how to use them. The idea is that the school kids can then use the cameras to take photos of their own and send them back to Canada to be sold by Soft Edges, which will then redirect the money back to the village.

So you have an idea of their work, the above photograph is the one off my card – taken by Niki at a rally during the recent B.C. Teacher's strike. If you're interested in buying some cards or have a spare camera you want to donate, send off an e-mail to softedges@hotmail.com

The other photographs in the card were pictures of the rest of my Christmas present from the girls. It was a photo-essay of the two of them buying and donating a ton of items to the food bank “in my honour.” I am certainly honoured.

While in Amsterdam, my mom called my cell phone with an urgent call, but it ran out of credit so I had to call her right back on a payphone. The call lasted about 3 minutes at the absolute most. I just checked my credit card bill - which is totally depressing on the whole - and found out how much the bastards charged me for the call.

So tired.

Need to

Sleep. And

Just relax.

Explored Canterbury in all its glory today. Seeing Aladdin tomorrow starring John Rhys-Davies from Lord of the Rings. Ran into (almost literally) Dame Judi Dench in London last night on my way to seeing the Billy Elliot musical. She looked great and the musical was amazing.

Good stuff, but too much stuff.

No more words.
